Editorial Review:

Amazon.comRichard Simmons is the king of motivational exercise, especially if you're a beginner. This video workout is a dance party simulating a class reunion, with an energizing live band playing lively hits from the '50s and '60s, such as 'It's My Party and I'll Cry If I Want To,' 'Great Balls of Fire,' and 'Dancing in the Streets.' The singers and musicians sometimes come offstage and dance with the exercisers, adding to the energy and festivity. The choreography is very simple, low impact, light intensity, and appropriate for beginners and overweight exercisers. (You may not get your heart rate up if you're very fit, although you'll enjoy the music.) Richard doesn't do much in the way of cueing--he assumes you'll just follow along. His onscreen class has women and men of all body shapes and sizes, and everyone is having a blast. You will, too. At the end, the exercisers dance down the floor and the screen flashes how many pounds they've lost--several have lost more than 100 pounds. (22 minutes of aerobics, total 43 minutes with warm-up, cool down, and stretch.) --Joan Price

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - timeless
I bought this video when it came out in 1988 and I've been using it on and off ever since!!!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Richard and his Dance Club
This DVD is different .

It has a stage and a band and at the end of each song, Richard prances up to the stage like a teenager to applaud the mediocre band.

choreographed and without Richard's usual directions on the exercises, it would be very difficult for one to follow up, especially someone too obese to be as agile as this dance video displays.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - So addictive ... I can't stop ...!!
The songs were the best of the best, it doesn't even feel like you're working out as you're singing along to the clean-cut, fun, jump around dance songs and doing a variety of silly dance combos. You may look like a fool, but who cares!! It's so much fun.

This was the first Richard Simmons video I tried (in an aerobics class for college last semester), and I'm ADDICTED!! I used to laugh at Richard Simmons, but after I did the video it's like ... how can you NOT love him?!

I'm going on a Richard-Simmons-workout-video-buying binge as soon as I finish writing this review!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Sweatin' to the Oldies
You definitely SWEAT ... good condition ... quick ship. Go for it!!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Sweatin' to the Oldies
The tape is blurry; appears to be copied too many times. I paid for a new edition.

Hurricanes, as we've seen, can wreak serious havoc when they strike populated areas. We've never had control over them before, but one researcher thinks they could be broken up with F-4 fighter jets.

In theory, sending in a pair of the jets to do loops around the eye of the hurricane while it's still out over the ocean, creating sonic booms, would break it up before it hits the shore.

Jet fighters flying at supersonic speeds along special trajectories with a hurricane/typhoon at various altitudes would create supersonic booms. In one such embodiment, the trajectories for the supersonic booms of the present invention are counter to the rotational component of the hurricane and/or typhoon being targeted. As such, supersonic booms can be tailored and/or designed to partially and/or fully -negate the basic rotational contribution in a hurricane by slowing down a hurricane's/typhoon's rotation. Additionally, when supersonic booms propagate downward to the surface of the ocean they also destabilize a hurricane's/typhoon's structure by increasing the pressure in the central part of a hurricane's/typhoon's eye.

It's a pretty crazy idea, but I guess it makes sense. It would be pretty amazing to be able to stop any hurricane before it hit shore, saving millions and millions of dollars and who knows how many lives. I can't wait for them to test this out. [Patent via AV Web; Thanks, Jason!]

The fact that I'm able to type this blog entry less than a week after the operation has me hopeful that recovery will be quicker than I was led to believe, but it will still be a few weeks before I'm able to really tackle any serious work.
