Editorial Review:

Amazon.comRichard Simmons, the great motivator, presents another light-intensity, low-impact, high-energy workout in the style of his popular Sweatin' to the Oldies series. Again live music is the focus--this time 1980s dance hits such as 'Celebration,' 'Flashdance,' 'Gloria,' 'She Works Hard for the Money,' and 'Call Me.' Just like in the Sweatin' videos, Simmons leads a large class of people of both genders and all shapes and sizes--all having the time of their lives dancing, singing, and cheering (their noisiness may grate on you after a while). Richard wears his signature shorts and tank top, and his followers wear multicolored casual clothes. The message is that it doesn't matter how you look or how much you weigh--just show up and dance! The dance-style choreography is matched to the music, but no moves require much coordination or memory. Simmons barely cues the changes--just watch and follow. This tape is a lot of fun, especially if you remember this music well enough to sing along! At the end of the tape, the performers dance down the center while we read their names and the amount of weight they've lost. Several have lost more than 100 pounds, and one woman has lost 282 pounds! (No, that's not a misprint.) Simmons is to be applauded for making exercise accessible and enjoyable to a whole population of people who didn't know that workouts could be fun. --Joan Price

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I can actually do this!
I'm not one of those folks that thinks exercise is 'fun.' I exercise only because I've been trying to lose weight the past several months. This video, though, is something I can physically do that I actually enjoy. As a child of the '80s, I think the songs are great, and the workout is enough to make me sweat without being discouragingly hard.
I also like that the video isn't populated by smiling hardbodies who've never struggled with their weight a day in their life. The people in this video look like me, which is also encouraging.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Wonderful Aerobic Workout
I thoroughly enjoy Richard Simmons videos and Dance Your Pants Off was no exception. My only flaw with this video is that I have to watch my knees and sometimes some of the moves were difficult for my poor knees. All in all, I do recomend this video for people who enjoy Richard!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Richard Simmons does it again!
I have several Richard Simmons workout videos, but this one has become a fast favorite of mine. I'm really overwhelmed at everything this tape has to offer: a great workout in a smaller amount of time, fantastic music and performers, and lots of motivation from the dancers and from Richard. For those of you who have used other RS videos, you won't be disappointed with this one. For those who are new to Richard, I highly recommend this particular video. You will catch yourself having so much fun that it won't even feel like exercise!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - FUN!!!
I have a few other videos, none as fun as this one. I got through it the first time I played it, which is unusual. I'd get tired, and just try to finish out that song... then when the next one comes on, it will perked me up so much, that I'd say to yourself...well after this one... then I might stop. I didn't stop! I kept going and made it all the way through! This is very encouraging for someone that is just starting up their exercizing. Its a lot of fun and easy to follow.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Richard is the greatest!
I started doing "Dance your pants off" about 10 months ago and I am happy to say that I have lost almost 40 lbs. and have gone from a size 12-13 pant to a size 7-8. I watched what I ate but Richard Simmons was my main focus everyday. I did the tape everyday and the results are wonderful! I really recommend this to anyone interested in losing weight and having a great time at the same time! Richard Simmons is such an inspiration in Dance Your Pants Off. You will feel so much better about yourself after doing it.

Hurricanes, as we've seen, can wreak serious havoc when they strike populated areas. We've never had control over them before, but one researcher thinks they could be broken up with F-4 fighter jets.

In theory, sending in a pair of the jets to do loops around the eye of the hurricane while it's still out over the ocean, creating sonic booms, would break it up before it hits the shore.

Jet fighters flying at supersonic speeds along special trajectories with a hurricane/typhoon at various altitudes would create supersonic booms. In one such embodiment, the trajectories for the supersonic booms of the present invention are counter to the rotational component of the hurricane and/or typhoon being targeted. As such, supersonic booms can be tailored and/or designed to partially and/or fully -negate the basic rotational contribution in a hurricane by slowing down a hurricane's/typhoon's rotation. Additionally, when supersonic booms propagate downward to the surface of the ocean they also destabilize a hurricane's/typhoon's structure by increasing the pressure in the central part of a hurricane's/typhoon's eye.

It's a pretty crazy idea, but I guess it makes sense. It would be pretty amazing to be able to stop any hurricane before it hit shore, saving millions and millions of dollars and who knows how many lives. I can't wait for them to test this out. [Patent via AV Web; Thanks, Jason!]

The fact that I'm able to type this blog entry less than a week after the operation has me hopeful that recovery will be quicker than I was led to believe, but it will still be a few weeks before I'm able to really tackle any serious work.
