Editorial Review:

Amazon.comJohn F. Kennedy lived long enough to see this Hollywood account of his Navy career and his heroism following a ruthless attack by a Japanese ship on his small patrol craft. Cliff Robertson is an amiable choice to play Kennedy, though one won't find a lot of the late president's mannerisms in his performance. The key battle sequence, which finds Kennedy and his crew bloodied and battered while trying to stay alive in shark-infested waters, makes a big impression on young viewers. --Tom Keogh

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Saved his crew and then the world
For those who have seen this film Barney Ross (Robert Culp) was a source of humor to the PT Men. While this is not played up in the film, the PT Boat brotherhood got Barney a part in the picture as a CPO whom the young jg Kennedy pours cleaning fluid on by mistake. Early in the film when the crew is renovating the boat the actual Barney Ross is the chief telling JFK about sea pearls.

Kennedy has been dead for over 40 years and is still under attacks for his private life, wonder why that is? He did all right by me, saved my ass in 1962. Why no DVD wonder why that is?

I can't agree that it is too long it gives a good measure of the SW Pacific between being bored to death and shot to death.

When Kennedy read the script he gave his OK if he could pick the actor to play himself he picked a young upstart named Cliff not Warren atleast that was the story in 1963, 64, 65....

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - My son loved it
My son is doing a report on JFK and we got him the movie as backround. He loved it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - PT 109
Yes it is a very good movie, I remember seeing it for the 1st time with my Dad at the theater in 1963. He was in the US Navy, and it is Hollywood, but it does show the story of how and what happened with former President Kennedy, while he was in the South Pacific during WWII.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - PT 109, Helps out the scale modler!
I find that this movie is an excellent source for details on PT Boats. The action in it quite good and in the beginning fast pace. The major flaw is the music score. It is very loud, very repitious and at some points, very annoying. The other problem with the movie is the use of air craft that hadn't been built yet.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - good movie for younger viewers
The movie as a whole was entertaining for it's time but not very accurate about real events that actually took place. To the reviewer from Baltimore: To understand how a craft such as this got rammed you need to understand how these boats patroled ,which by the way was always done at night and usually idiling on one engine (out of three) which at times never responded very well on quick response. Take it from a Navy veteran ,its very dark at sea at night. I for one review it as a very non-violent & entertaining film for younger and older viewers alike

All About N-Gage have the dirt on a game that looks like it has a lot of potential: Asphalt: Urban GT.  I can't say that I've played much more than some FIFA and other random stuff on the N-Gage, but a good racer can add a lot of value to a gaming platform.  Of course I'm still waiting to see if Call of Duty rocks as much as it should.

It's almost cruel of us to post about the Schöpfer Oculus, a 250-foot luxury yacht inspired by an oceanic fish.

With room for 12 people to comfortably cruise at 25 knots, the rear of the Oculus remains open like a gigantic jaw that's eating the passengers alive in luxury. And what appears to be a cleverly-placed window fills in an apt spot for an eye.

Inside, the ceilings reach an impressive 12-feet (hey, those are higher than where I live every day!) while the entire boat is still described as a "low rider," featuring retractable panels that protect the decks from swells. Wait, why are we even bothering to explain all of this to you? You can't afford it. [Schopfer Yachts via DVICE]

I've heard it said by Dave Winer and many many others: if only Dean had reinvested half the money raised into the Internet, then ...

OK, so you're the Dean Campaign Chief Information Officer in August 2003. The money starts to roll in. $20 million over six months, $2-4 million per month.

What would you spend the money on?

  1. What does your monthly budget look like?
  2. What is your application and infrastructure portfolio?
  3. How much will you allocate to maintenance?
  4. You're building from scratch, so what problems do you hope to avoid through wise architecture?
  5. What are your big milestones?
  6. Who are your key vendors?

How do you spend in consonance with the campaign strategy?

  1. How will you use the Internet to bring offline voters into the campaign at the same numbers as radio or television broadcasts?
  2. What is your online strategy for responding to attack ads and opposition pundits in radio, television and print?
  3. Online community takes time to build and is very hard to organize geographically. What will you do to match the state-by-state primary schedule?
  4. What can you do with online services to serve the campaign in caucus states?
  5. You are preparing for Bush to launch in Spring 2004. What are your countermeasures to reach out to moderate Republicans online while the GOP uses its advanced voter email systems to barrage 200 million validated email addresses?
  6. How will you lower the cost-per-vote vs. the GOP?
